Texas heartbeat bill puts mental health professionals at risk

The team at Flourish is heartbroken and pissed off that Texas SB 8 (aka Heartbeat Bill) went into effect September 1, 2021. This law puts mental health professionals at risk of expensive lawsuits if they simply do their job of listening and connecting clients with options and resources should they become pregnant.

We passionately and urgently ask those who want women to bring their pregnancies to term to come up with different ways to further your cause.

For instance, offer $10,000 to a woman who brings her pregnancy to term to help her pay for all she will need to bring the baby into this world. $10,000 is a fraction of what will be needed but giving it to pregnant mothers gets a better return-on-investment than giving it to people for snitching.

Flourish was founded by a social worker and everyone here, not just social workers, highly values our role as helping those in need. Our company values include no judgment, compassion, kindness, empathy, and integrity, and these values complement our role as helpers to ensure our clients receive objective, judgment-free support and collaboration.

We will continue to do what we do despite the risks inherently posed to us by SB 8.
